XPJ-1641SR-P: Revised Drop Mass details as of V1.03 for MS41 and UMS

As of FW V1.03, the XPJ-1641Sr-P offers an additional drop family: Small2 (VSD4).

  • The VSD4 drop family is available only in combination with MS41 ink.
  • The firmware is 100% backwards compatible, which means profiles created with VSD3 will not be impacted.
  • When is VSD4 useful?
    • When creating profiles for close viewing distance in combination with substrates which display a small dot gain.
       Typical examples: Cast self-adhesives, HQ coated photo papers.
    • Under these conditions the general experience is that the middle and small drops of the existing small drop family (VSD3) are too small to sufficiently cover white space.
      Taking into account all accumulated tolerances, operator adjustment errors etc., this can lead to unwanted print artifacts.
       Hence, Mutoh recommends to start using Small2/VSD4 instead of Small/VSD3 as soon as available in your RIP software.
  • The VSD4 small and middle drops are slightly larger than VSD3 small and middle drops.
    As a result, it makes sense to use the new drop mass values for ink consumption estimation calculations (see tables with drop masses & volumes).
     The additional drop family details are also being shared with the RIP manufacturers.
  • The Small2/VSD4 drop family can be used in VerteLith as of:
    • VerteLith Ver.4.1.0.
    • Vertelith Printer Profiler Ver.2.1.0.

 

Additional Adjustments:

  • In case you are updating an XPJ-1641SR-P printer running with MS41 ink from V1.02 (or lower) to V1.03,
    please take care to perform all required adjustments to ensure correct jetting of the new drop family.
     Printers produced before the release of V1.03 do not have adjustment values stored for VSD4 (Small 2).
  • Up until now, bi-dir adjustments showed patterns ‘A’ until ‘F’.
    Now patterns ‘G’ and ‘H’ have been added to adjust a normal and a fast shuttle speed for the Small 2 drop family.
