UMS21 ink load on a new unit or on a unit already loaded with MS51_V7_09-01-2026

1/ Unit already running on MS51

During the transition period – use of MS51 in combination with UMS21 – the machine will need to be able to temporarily accept both smart chip types. As a result following workflow is set-up:

  • Upgrade the FW version to:
    1. XPJ-1341SR-P Ver1.12 (or higher)
    2. XPJ-1641SR-P Ver1.11 (or higher)
    3. XPJ-1682SR-P Ver1.08 (or higher)
  • Send the MPI file (retrieved via the MSA tool) to the Mutoh Europe Hardware department via the ticketing system (http://support.mutoh.eu).
  • Mutoh staff will create a new ULK file to be able to accept “UMS21” (change "company code"). Upload this ULK file to the printer (via MSA tool).
  • Get a new MPI file from the printer and send it again to Mutoh Europe. We will generate a new ULK file ("chip trouble") which needs to be uploaded again to the printer.
  • Start the printer in Diagnostics mode and switch the ink type to "UMS21" in following menu: “Parameter – Update – Ink type”. 
  • Reboot the printer in User mode, now the printer will be able to accept MS51 and UMS21 inks.

 

Note: At a certain point in time all MS51 will be used and all slots will have UMS21 installed. Now, when one of these becomes empty and is replaced by a new UMS21 ink pack no MS51 will be accepted anymore.

 

2/ Installation of a new unit on UMS21

Notes:

  • The printer must be loaded with this FW (or higher):
    • XPJ-1341SR-P Ver1.12
    • XPJ-1641SR-P Ver1.11
    • XPJ-1682SR-P Ver1.08
  • The printer must be configured to accept UMS21.
    • 2 options: 
      • when the unit is  ordered to be used with UMS21 then this configuration is done in Mutoh Europe.
      • when the unit is not yet configured in Mutoh Europe: make sure the unit is on the latest FW version and send the MPI file (retrieved via the MSA tool) to the Mutoh Europe Hardware department via the ticketing system (http://support.mutoh.eu). We will make a ULK file to be uploaded to the printer before starting it up. 

 

Installation:

  • Use MS41 cleaning packs (XPJ-16421SR-P / XPJ-1682SR-P)  or VJ-MS31 cleaning cartridges (XPJ-1341SR-P) to perform the initial cleaning.
  • After this initial cleaning UMS21 inks can be loaded.

 

Beware: Never start a new unit with a mix of MS51 and UMS21 inks. Only use UMS21 inks.
