How to switch a XPJ-1341SR-P from MS31 to UMS21 inks_V4_09-01-2026

IMPORTANT:  we advise you to pro-actively replace the ink pump (DG-43907) on field-units in order to ensure a good ink switch. In case the pump is not working 100% anymore the ink switch might result in missing nozzles after the switch. Extra ink charges might be necessary then to get all nozzles active.

 

 

Required items:

 

  • FW V1.12 (or higher)
  • MSA 6.0.6 (or higher)
  • Wiper: part number IJ-WIP-02.
  • VJ-MS31-CL220E cleaning cartridges (4 Pieces)
  • UMS21 ink set
  • High capacity ink pack adaptors: 1x VJ-HCIPADPT (1 set contains 4 adaptors), If not yet used on the unit.
  • New ink pump: part number DG-43907. 

 

 

Procedure:

 

  • Start the printer in Board Manager Mode.
  • Start MUTOH Service Assistance. Click on Main F/W Update and install the FW Ver1.12 (or higher).

 

WARNING:


If you do not use the mentioned FW-version (or higher) the boot up cycle of the printer with UMS21 ink will fail !!

 

  • Perform a nozzle check to document the current status.
  • Power down the printer.
  • Empty the waste bottle.
  • Replace the pump to ensure a good ink switch!
  • Start the printer in Self-Diagnosis mode.
  • Reset the pump life time counter (>parameter>init.counter>pump).
  • Go to Check 4:Adjustment > Adj.12:Longstore and perform a "Longstore" using new MS31 cleaning cartridges.
  • When the procedure is finished, the panel shows 'Adj. 12: LONGSTORE'.
  • Power down the printer.
  • Now the printer needs to be configured to be able to accept UMS21 inks:
    • Send the MPI file (retrieved via the MSA tool) to the Mutoh Europe Hardware department via the ticketing system (http://support.mutoh.eu).
    • Mutoh staff will create a new ULK file to be able to accept “UMS21” (company code). Upload this ULK file to the printer (via MSA tool).
  • Replace the wiper.
  • Empty the waste bottle.
  • Start the printer in User Mode.
  • Display shows: 'INK charge - Start>Enter' , now press <Enter>.
  • Insert the MS31 cleaning cartridges (the ones used in the Longstore should contain sufficient cleaning for this second cycle).
  • After the washing cycle, the display will show: "Wash Retry?" ==> Choose No.
  • Perform an 'ink charge' using the UMS21 ink pouches (+ the dedicated smart cards)
  • Recalibrate the BI-D of the printer. 
  • End of procedure.
